Mr. Othón Canales - Quaker Partner

Mr. Othón Canales is a Partner in the Energy practice of The Quaker Group and is based in Mexico City.  He graduated as a Chemical Engineer, graduated from the UNAM Faculty of Chemistry. He completed postgraduate studies in Business Administration at the Instituto Tecnológico de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey. Othón worked several years in the company Industrias Resistol, S.A. a Monsanto subsidiary in México. He started as a Process Engineer with subsequent roles including: Planning Manager Styrene Polymers Division; Subdirector Engineering Polymers; and General Manager of Ultrapol, S.A. a subsidiary company of General Electric Plastics.
In 1982 Othón left GE Plastics to become Chief Operating Officer of Othón Canales Ingenieros, S.C. This company has been the representative of foreign companies in Mexico for more than 30 years. Ingenieros, S.C. represents a broad array of products for the petrochemical and petroleum industries including chemical intermediates, catalysts and additives. In 2000 Othón was appointed by Mexico President Vicente Fox as Pemex's SVP of IT and Innovation. He continued in that role intil 2006. Subsequent to Pemex Othón went back to lead his family's closely held business as President and CEO, Othón Canales Ingenieros, SC. After PEMEX, he worked in the business consulting area, an activity that he continues to carry out to date.

Othón is a member of the following associations: Mexican Institute of Chemical Engineers of which he was National President in 1995; National College of Chemists and Chemical Engineers of which he was National President in 1998; Vice-President of the National Union of Engineering Associations; Member of Mexican Chemical Society Autónoma de México; and President of INROADS de México. 


Othón is also Chairman of the Board of Directors of The Woodland School in México City, Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Orchestra of the Palace of Mines, a member of the Board of Directors of the Kappler Safety Group, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of The College of Chemistry at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. Othón has run seven marathons and is a licensed private airplane pilot.


Mark Wilson - Senior Advisor

Mr. Mark Wilson is a Quaker Group Senior Advisor and global senior management executive. Mark's focus is to capitalize on market opportunities to drive growth in profits, cash flow, and returns. Mark has strong P&L management experience including problem businesses, finance, restructuring, strategy development and execution, mergers & acquisitions, operations management and improvement, organization design and change management. 


Mark has significant experience in the petroleum and process industries. Mark was the Chairman, President, and CEO of Coronado Resources, LLC. Mark was also the Senior Vice President, Corporate Development and Planning for the Williams Companies, Managing Director, Koch Investment Group at Koch Industries, Inc., and served as Senior Vice President, Corporate Development, Petroleum Group/Flint Hills Resources. Prior to Mark's corporate career he was a Senior Associate within the Energy and Chemicals Group at Booz-Allen & Hamilton, Inc. 

Mark began his consulting career as a Manager and Consultant at Arthur D. Little, Inc., following business school graduation. Prior to business school Mark was a refinery process engineer at Conoco, Inc. Mark is a graduate of the Harvard School of Business Administration and Oklahoma State University. At Oklahoma State Mark earned a BS in Chemical Engineering Summa Cum Laude.

Russ Kinghorn - Senior Director

Mr. Russ Kinghorn is a Senior Director Partner Affiliate with The Quaker Group. Mr. Kinghorn has over

16 years of consulting experience in major integrated business planning projects in the manufacturing

industries. Prior to consulting, Mr. Kinghorn was involved in all aspects of the forest and paper

industry for over 20 years. Mr. Kinghorn was the plant manager for Cranbrook's (Canada) sawmill division

where he was responsible for all aspects of a sawmill operation with 180 employees.

Mr. Kinghorn engineered significant contributions to the bottom line through new initiatives

including: development of a long term business and strategic plan; delivery of a comprehensive

employee training program; and implementation of a preventive maintenance program. Mr. Kinghorn

has provided significant consulting advice for the world's second largest metallurgical coal producer

including rigorous model design, data gathering, model construction, data interchange middleware

construction, and personnel training. The output of some of Mr. Kinghorn's work has included:

product blending, mine output allocations, logistics, capital planning with capital restrictions and

setting of plant upgrade levels at multiple plants for each mine output product.

Mr. Kinghorn has a Bachelor of Applied Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of

British Columbia, and an MBA (Management Science and Management Information Systems) from

Simon Fraser University in Canada, one of the top graduate business schools in Canada.

Peter Freeman - Senior Director

Mr. Freeman has 40 years of reliability, maintenance, project, and construction, experience in the process, petrochemical and refining industries.

 

Since 1994, he has provided independent consulting support in the operations, reliability and maintenance areas to major refining, petrochemical, and chemical companies worldwide.

Prior to 1994 Peter served ExxonMobil corporation in increasingly responsible roles as a senior reliability advisor for both refining and petrochemicals globally.

Some examples of Mr. Freeman’s skills and accomplishments include:

  • Performed more than 21 Reliability and Maintenance surveys globally.
  • Undertook benchmarking of reliability and maintenance in North America and Europe, and contractors.
  • Developed, evaluated, and implemented "front-end loading" techniques for reliability
  • Managed and evaluated “Best Practice” T/A strategy, man-hour and cost estimating, planning, control and execution on a worldwide basis.
  • Performed Pre-T/A, T/A, work scope and readiness reviews and Post-T/A evaluations.
  • Developed and implemented maintenance improvement/survey techniques.
  • Evaluated and implemented onstream maintenance repair techniques, procedures, and practices.
  • Provided networking services between all Exxon U.S.A. Refineries and Corporate Management.
    • •Exxon Company International on a worldwide reliability and maintenance basis.
    • Reliability and maintenance assessments worldwide and unit run length and downtime improvement studies for major operating units and utilities.
    • Maintenance activities at five refineries (Maintenance Budget $100M) together with reliability and maintenance and consulting as required by Esso Resources, Syncrude, the O.S.L.O. Project, and Exxon Affiliates.
    • Responsible to the Refinery Manager for maintenance and mechanical engineering
    • Included Turnaround work 500,000 hours, 400-650 contract employees.

Peter is also a Registered Professional Engineer in the Province of Ontario, Canada
